Peel the onions and cut into 1/2 inch thick rings. Separate the rings.
In a shallow dish, combine the flour and paprika.
Dip each onion ring into the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Then coat each ring in the flour mixture.
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil to 375°F.
Fry the onion rings in batches until they are golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Drain on paper towels and season with salt while still hot.
