Gradually add broth and stir

In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, and saute until onions are translucent.
Add mushrooms and cook until they are soft and browned.
Add Arborio rice to the pan and stir to coat with the oil. Cook for a few minutes until the edges of the rice are translucent.
Gradually add the chicken broth, one cup at a time, stirring constantly. Allow each addition of broth to be absorbed before adding the next.
When all the broth has been added and the rice is tender, stir in the Parmesan cheese until it's well incorporated. Serve hot.
