Preheat your oven to 500°F. While the oven is preheating, rub your prime rib with a mixture of butter, chopped garlic, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
Place the prime rib in a roasting pan bone-side down. Roast for 20 minutes at 500°F, then reduce the oven temperature to 325°F and continue roasting for about 2 hours.
The prime rib is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 130°F. Once it's done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 20 minutes before slicing.
