Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring that no lumps form.
Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture constantly to prevent it from burning. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens and begins to boil.
Once the mixture has started boiling, continue to boil and stir for 1 minute.
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Gradually stir at least half of the hot mixture into the egg yolks. This will temper the eggs and prevent them from scrambling.
Pour the egg yolk mixture back into the hot mixture in the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
