A classic French-style donut, these beignets are deep-fried and covered in a generous amount of powdered sugar for a delicious treat!
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.
Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture, and stir until just combined.
Heat the oil in a large pot or electric skillet to 375°F.
Drop the dough by tablespoonfuls into the hot oil, and fry for 3 to 5 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove the beignets from the oil, and drain on paper towels.
Sprinkle the beignets with powdered sugar, and serve hot.
