Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
Gradually beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk.
Gently fold in the coconut.
Pour batter into a greased 9x13 inch pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 5 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
Gradually beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk. Begin and end with the flour mixture, and mix just until incorporated. Gently fold in the coconut.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Allow cake to cool in pan for at least 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
